Honoring Veterans With a Veteran Tribute

Many veterans’ lives are marked by military service, a commitment to protecting their country and often a willingness to make sacrifices in the name of liberty. Memorializing their contributions with a veteran tribute helps families remember the values and characteristics that made their loved ones special, and can help bridge the gap between their military accomplishments and their life at home.

The Jim Beasley Veterans Tribute at the University of Miami is a beautiful and contemplative space that commemorates our community’s service men and women, with more than 40,000 names engraved on four walls along with their branch of service. It also features a bronze eagle sculpture and the five military service seals.

Tributes honor the many facets of a military life and a veteran’s dedication to family, faith and community. The 20 glass panels feature quotes illustrating the multiple facets of what it means to serve, and the themes include: Service, Camaraderie, Honor and Sacrifice.

UT Southwestern recently held its 10th annual Tribute to Veterans Ceremony in honor of community members who self-identify as veterans. The event was led by a panel of speakers who discussed the importance of recognition and appreciation for our nation’s veterans.

Whether it’s a family gathering with comrades and friends, a video tribute or a shadow box display, sharing your veteran’s story can be a cathartic experience. The options for celebrating your loved one’s legacy are endless, and a veteran tribute is an enduring way to honor them.
