What is a Local Legend in World of Warcraft?

Every state has its share of myths and legends, but Utah might be the best at it. From fry sauce to monsters under the water, this mountainous state has plenty of lore to keep residents entertained. And while many of the stories may be outright hogwash, some still manage to entrance people.

A local legend is a kind of oral folk narrative that centers on some place, person or object which actually exists, or at least has existed within the community of those who tell and hear the story. Historically, the term local legend has referred to stories that are told in a geographically defined area, but it can also be applied to any tale that has gained broad popular acceptance.

In addition to granting prestige and a crown icon next to the segment, becoming a Local Legend rewards you with 835 Primogems, and your name will appear on a special histogram leaderboard when you’re crowned. Note that efforts completed before the Local Legends feature was introduced will not count toward your achievement. Segment efforts that are not visible to “Everyone” will not count towards your Local Legends competition, and you can opt out of Local Legends from any eligible segment or by visiting your privacy settings page.

Local Legends are special mini-boss enemies first introduced in Fontaine, but have now also been added to Liyue, Natlan, and Nod-Krai. These enemies resemble their normal counterparts but are enhanced with increased attack stats, improved or new attacks, and often drop valuable materials like Mora, experience, and character and weapon enhancement materials. Defeating a Local Legend requires solving a puzzle or World Quest.
